What is GTOR?

Georgia Tech Off-Road (GTOR) is the engineering-racing extracurricular team officially representing Georgia Tech in the BAJA SAE Collegiate Series. The team competes against hundreds internationally to design, construct, defend and compete a single-seat off-road racing car every year. I joined the team within two weeks of enrolling in August 2016 and spent almost all of my four years as an undergraduate in various positions of technical leadership.

The overarching goal is to produce a car that performs well at competition, is derived from sound engineering practice and is broadly suitable for retail in the recreational market. My tenure with the team saw me invest literally thousands of hours using tools, techniques and processes in exactly the same way a small OEM might. The expectations, tasks and self-management make involved team membership comparable to work experience, minus being paid.
